Internet Research Guidelines for teachers and students:
1. Students are required to use our online Student Research Links
2. Use of Google - Students are required to exhaust all the links provided in our online Student Research links before asking an adult to stand behind them so they can use Google.
Adults - whenever a student asks if they can use Google we ask that you assist us by asking students the following questions:
• Ask them which of the student research links they have tried so far
• Ask what words they used during their search
• Check the browser history to verify they did use the student research links. When you do this you will be able to view the spelling of the words the student used in their search.
• Two of the links provided in our Student Use for Research links are filtered Google links which are safer choices for kids. They are named GoGooligans and Squirrel Net.
3. Finding photos - Lovett lower school students should always begin any picture/photo search by using Image Quest as their primary source.
• Students are required to stay on the first page when searching for photos and need to make their photo selection from that page.
• The only exception to this rule is when they use ImageQuest, then they are allowed to view all the photo's since the database is filtered for student use.
4. We ask students if they happen upon something inappropriate while on the internet that they immediately either hit the back button, click on the red dot to close the window or quit out of the application. Student's are instructed not to call any attention to themselves by making any sounds or waving their friends over to take a look. After they press the back button or cleared their screen they know they are not in any trouble but we ask that they make their teacher or an adult aware of what just happened. (refer to diagram below)
